Crystal Lam

Crystal Lam obtained her bachelor’s degree with first class honours at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) under the tutelage of Shirley Ip and Gabriel Kwok. She was awarded the Bernard Van Zuidan Music Scholarship and Texas Christian University Scholarship and obtained her Master of Music degree under Tamas Ungar. She then obtained her Doctoral of Musical Arts degree with full scholarship at the University of Kansas, where she studied with Jack Winerock and Scott Smith.
Not only has Lam won various prizes in international music competitions as a soloist, she is also actively engaged in chamber music as a collaborative pianist. She is the founder of the Wakarusa Trio, which has won top prizes in chamber music competitions, including the Music Teachers National Association Chamber Ensemble National Championship in the United States. The Trio was invited by the Kansas Public Radio to give a live broadcast performance. It also made its Carnegie Hall debut in 2014 after winning the First Prize at American Protégé.
Lam has performed with various local arts organizations including Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Ballet, Musica Viva and at concerts presented by the Hong Kong Leisure and Culture Services Department. She currently teaches at the HKAPA and serves as an adjudicator for piano competitions in Hong Kong.
