Li Chun-lam James
Violin
Violinist Li Chun-lam James graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with a master’s degree in Music Studies, majoring in Violin under the tutelage of Ivan Chan, former leader of the Miami String Quartet. His graduation recital and chamber music recital were both held at the Music Department of the Shanghai University in 2023. He has participated in masterclasses with Ning Feng, Wang Jing and Zhou Qian. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2021 studying under Le Hoai-nam, Principle Second Violin of Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Li achieved his FTCL diploma from Trinity Guildhall at the age of 16 under the guidance of Jensen Lung.
Li was a recipient of several scholarships at the HKAPA, including the Mr & Mrs Y S Liu Scholarship, Dr & Mrs George Choa Memorial Scholarship and Wong Wai Ming Memorial Scholarship. He is currently a part-time tutor of the Junior Music Programme at the HKAPA.
An active participant of chamber and orchestral performances, Li was the First Prize winner in the chamber division of the Hong Kong Generation Next Arts Music Competition in 2022. He joined Hong Kong Sinfonietta in the 2024/2025 season as a tutti violinist, and has appeared as a freelance musician with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and Hong Kong String Orchestra. During his master’s degree studies at the HKAPA, he performed as Concertmaster of the Academy Symphony Orchestra with Music Director Emeritus of Hong Kong Sinfonietta Yip Wing-sie, playing Richard Strauss’ Don Juan and Till Eulenspiegel.
