Violin

Violinist James Li Chun-lam graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, holding a Master degree in Music studies. Li was majoring in violin under the tutelage of Prof. Ivan Chan, the former leader of the Miami String Quartet while he is studying in the HKAPA. Li had his graduation recital and chamber music recital both held at the music department of the Shanghai University in 2023. Li has participated in masterclasses with Ning Feng, Jing Wang and Qian Zhou. Li finished his Bachelor degree in 2021, studying with Mr. Le Hoai Nam, the principle 2nd violinist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Li obtained his FTCL diploma in the Trinity Guildhall at the age of 16 under the guidance of Mr. Jensen Lung.

Li was one of the awardees of several scholarships from the HKAPA, including Mr & Mrs Y.S. Liu scholarship, Dr&mrs George Choa Memorial scholarship and Wong Wai Ming Memorial scholarship. Li is currently a part-time tutor of the Junior music programme of the HKAPA.

Li has been actively participating in chamber and orchestral performances. For Chamber music, Li was the first prize winner in the chamber division of the Hong Kong Generation Next Music Competition in 2022.

Li is an experienced orchestral player, he joined the Hong Kong Sinfonietta in the season of 2024 as a tutti violinist. He was a freelance musician in the Hong Kong Philharmonic, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong String Orchestra. During his studies in the HKAPA, Li had performed with the music director emeritus of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta Yip Wing-Sie, as the concertmaster of the Academy Symphony Orchestra during his Masters degree, performing Richard Strauss’ “Don Juan” and “Till Eulenspiegels”.
