Anthony Wong
Clarinet
Born in Hong Kong, Anthony Wong has been the Principal Clarinet of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong (CCOHK) since 2000. He appeared as a soloist with different orchestras and ensembles around the world, playing concertos by Vivaldi, Mozart, Weber, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Artie Shaw. He has also made a CD recording with the CCOHK for the solo work In Foreign Lands composed by Taiwanese composer Chien-Tai Chen, under forgotten records label.
Before joining the CCOHK, Wong has appeared on tour with the Asian Youth Orchestra from 1994 to 1996. He has also appeared frequently as guest principal clarinet with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Macau Orchestra, and tutti clarinet with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician, Wong is the founding member of the Hong Kong Wind Kamerata and participated in chamber concerts with the Hamburg New Music Ensemble and the Luxemburg Sinfonietta. Wong founded the CLARINAIZATION Ensemble in 2017, a Hong Kong-based clarinet chamber group aim to introduce various clarinet music to the public, not only by arranging music, educational programs and concerts but also create a YouTube channel called CLZN Clarinet Ensemble.
One of the most active teachers in Hong Kong, Wong has been the clarinet lecturer and chamber music coach at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts since 2000. He has also been invited to be an adjudicator in various music competitions, and has given masterclasses and workshops in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
