Daniel Chu is a pianist, composer, arranger, record producer, music director and scholar whose versatile abilities across all aspects of music-making have made him one of Hong Kong’s most sought-after musicians. Known for performances which combine jazz sensibility with avant-garde prowess, his music resonates across a remarkable array of local and international stages, from intimate jazz venues and black box theatres to concert halls, major music festivals and sold-out coliseum shows.
A boundary-crossing collaborator, Chu has worked with internationally renowned visual artists, sound artists, theatre practitioners and pop stars. Renowned for his command of free improvisation and his acumen across contemporary music genres, he has forged a distinctive artistic personality. He graduated summa cum laude from the Boston Campus of Berklee College of Music at the age of 20, and earned his Master of Philosophy in Music (Ethnomusicology) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2024.
