Sebastian Wienand
Harpsichord

The OPUS Klassik award winner studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. He received inspiration early on through his work in international concert and opera productions. Belgian early music specialist and conductor René Jacobs has been inviting him regularly as musical assistant to opera productions ever since.

His busy concert schedule has taken him from Shanghai, Seoul and Tokyo to Berlin, New York and Buenos Aires – to the world’s most important concert halls. He is a regular guest at major festivals, including the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, the Bachfest Leipzig, the Mozartfest Würzburg, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Bachwochen Ansbach and the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York.

As a soloist, Sebastian has performed with renowned orchestras, including the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Brandenburg State Orchestra, the Millenium Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the B’Rock Orchestra. Highlights include Beethoven’s Fantasy for Piano, Choir and Orchestra at the Berlin Philharmonic, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 19 in F major at the Hong Kong Arts Festival, and the Concerto for Two Pianos with Kristian Bezuidenhout and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.

As a harpsichordist, he is a member of the renowned Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and also works closely with the Belgian ensemble B’Rock Orchestra and the Academy for Early Music Berlin. He is also a member of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, which enables him to collaborate with outstanding musicians beyond the early music scene – such as violinists Daniel Hope and Pinchas Zukerman and organist Cameron Carpenter.

Sebastian maintains close musical friendships with, among others, recorder players Stefan Temmingh and Maurice Steger, violinist Gottfried von der Goltz, mandolinist Avi Avital and soprano Sunhae Im.

With his early chamber music ensemble l’Ornamento, he won the audience prize and first prize at Musica Antiqua Bruges, as well as the audience prize at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival.

As a soloist and chamber musician, he has participated in numerous recordings, including keyboard concertos by Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons Carl Philipp Emanuel and Wilhelm Friedemann, recorded with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Stefan Temmingh and Capricornus Consort Basel, La Cetra Basel and the Millenium Orchestra. He has also released solo works for piano and chamber music with Maurice Steger and Rebeka Rusó, among others, on CDs such as Sonatas for Viola da Gamba & Fortepiano (2011), Mr. Handel’s Dinner (2018) and A Tribute to Bach (2023).
