Alison Lau
Soprano

Hong Kong–born soprano Alison Lau performs internationally as a solo and ensemble singer, praised for her crystalline tone and expressive agility. Her repertoire spans baroque, Classical, and contemporary works, and she collaborates regularly with leading ensembles in the early music scene.

Raised in a musical family, Alison found her love of singing in choirs from a young age. She holds a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston and a Bachelor of Music from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In 2021 she moved to the Netherlands to study early music at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Since relocating to Europe, Alison has performed with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir and the Nederlandse Bachvereniging, appearing in festivals and major venues across the continent. She has appeared as a soloist with Il Gardellino, Vox Luminis, and Bachplus. In 2025 she made her Concertgebouw debut in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with Il Gardellino, and appeared at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio under the direction of Christoph Prégardien.

Before moving to Europe, Alison was active in Hong Kong as a concert, recital, and opera singer. She was named one of the Young Music Makers of RTHK in 2012 and appeared with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra the following year. She later trained as a young artist with Opera Hong Kong and performed roles including Lauretta, Despina, Zerlina, Barbarina, Musetta, Dido, Belinda, and Helena.

Her concert repertoire centres on the music of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries. Alison has also won prizes in international competitions and became the first classical singer from Hong Kong to record an album with Universal Music & Decca Records.
