Calling all budding pianists!

Apply for the chance to play a piano concerto on stage with Hong Kong Sinfonietta and win a concert engagement with the orchestra in an upcoming season!

1) Junior Category

Applicants must be Hong Kong residents aged 16 or below at the time of the auditions.

Repertoire list (for both application video and in-person audition if shortlisted):

  • The FIRST movement of one of the concertos below:
    • Beethoven: Piano Concerto No 1 in C, Op 15
    • Mozart: Piano Concerto No 20 in D minor, K466

2) Open Category

Applicants must be Hong Kong residents aged 25 or below at the time of the auditions.

Audition Timeline

Announcement of a maximum of four candidates from each category chosen to take part in the in-person rehearsals and auditions on stage

After auditions
One candidate from each category will be awarded a concert engagement with Hong Kong Sinfonietta in an upcoming season

 

Application details

Applicants may apply to ONE category only.

Application materials required:

  • A video of yourself playing the FIRST movement of a piano concerto from the repertoire list corresponding to the category you are applying to (with or without accompaniment) *
  • A video of yourself talking about the concerto you played in the abovementioned video, and why you want to play with Hong Kong Sinfonietta (under 2 mins) *
  • A recent photo of yourself taken in the last three months

* Please upload the videos to Dropbox or Google Drive, generate a shareable link with no expiry date. Please check the privacy settings of the links and make sure they are viewable and downloadable by anyone with the link.

 

Application deadline: 15 November 2024 (Fri), 23:59 Hong Kong Time

Application fee: HK$500 (to be paid via FPS or PayMe; non-refundable)

You will be notified of the result of your application via email by the end of November 2024.

  • The auditions will be documented for archival and promotional purposes. Photographs, audio and visual recordings may be printed in publications or broadcast on TV, radio, or the internet. By joining the audition, you agree to waive any rights to all visual, audio and application materials obtained during and for the auditions.
  • The application fee is non-refundable.
  • Hong Kong Sinfonietta Limited reserves the right to make changes to the details of or cancel the auditions.
  • In case of any dispute, Hong Kong Sinfonietta Limited reserves the right of the final decision.

The APPRECIATE concerts are, mainly, classical concerts featuring guest artists and conductors of world renown.  Apart from performing orchestral masterpieces, Hong Kong Sinfonietta regularly commissions new works and introduces to audiences works that are rarely heard in Hong Kong.

Music is good for everyone! The LEARN series takes audiences aged 0 to 88 into the world of classical music through specially designed concert series including Good Music for Babies, Good Music for Kids, Short-cut to Classical Music, Know Your Classical Music and HKS McDull Music Project.

In the light-hearted RELAX concerts, Hong Kong Sinfonietta shares with audiences great music ranging from orchestral favourites to music from movies and musicals.

The ENCOUNTER series offers unique opportunities for audiences to get close to the music and the performers through chamber music concerts, talks, often at unconventional venues or time. These include Good Music This Lunch, Good Music @ The Fringe, Beyond Good Music @ The Fringe, HKS ArtisTree Residency and UpClose Encounters.

Often referred to as “one of the world’s great small orchestras”, Hong Kong Sinfonietta has been invited to go on many TOURS in Europe, Asia, South and North Americas, sharing good music with audiences in over 30 cities.  In 2017/2018, the orchestra will make its début in Germany and perform at festivals in France, Portugal, as well as the Beethoven Easter Festival in Poland.

WHAT ELSE?  Apart from classical concerts, Hong Kong Sinfonietta regularly appears in staged productions by Hong Kong Ballet, Opera Hong Kong and visiting arts groups such as The Royal Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Bolshoi Ballet and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. This season, Hong Kong Sinfonietta will also host the 1st International Conducting Competition.
