Hailed as a “master storyteller” for his superb technique, purity and warmth of tone and directness of communication (The Australian), German-French cellist Nicolas Altstaedt is one of the most eminent cellists on today’s international stage, performing with such distinguished orchestras and conductors as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, Budapest Festival Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Paavo Järvi, Iván Fischer, Vasily Petrenko, Edward Gardner etc. Altstaedt reunites with Hong Kong Sinfonietta in their season-opening concert to perform Walton’s Cello Concerto, a centrepiece of 20th century cello literature, under the baton of Music Director Christoph Poppen. The concert also features Beethoven’s timeless Symphony No 2, and Japanese rising star composer Naoki Sakata’s mesmerising Zanzou no Utsuwa (Vessel of Afterimage).
