Alvin Ho
Principal Trombone

A native of Hong Kong, tenor trombonist Alvin Tsz-yin Ho was appointed Principal Trombone of Hong Kong Sinfonietta in 2026. He has performed as a guest trombonist with the Boston Pops and as Principal Trombone with the Macao Orchestra. He has also served as a substitute musician with the New World Symphony and Houston Grand Opera.

As a soloist, Ho has won several first prizes at competitions affiliated with the International Trombone Association (ITA), including the Gilberto Gagliardi Competition and Emory Remington Trombone Choir Competition. As a chamber musician, he won the 2025 American Trombone Workshop Quartet Competition with the 224 Trombone Quartet, and was a finalist in the ITA Trombone Quartet Competition.

Ho participated in the Chautauqua School of Music’s Instrumental Program in 2023 and 2024 on full scholarship, where he had the opportunity to share the stage with Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center. He has collaborated and performed with distinguished soloists such as Joseph Alessi, Brian Hecht, Megumi Kanda, Caleb Hudson, Jörgen van Rijen, Steve Lange and James Markey.

Awarded the Taylor Endowed Presidential Scholarship and Shawn Campbell Endowed Scholarship in Trombone, Ho earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from the University of Texas at Austin under the mentorship of Nathaniel Brickens. He also holds a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Steve Lange of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
