Violin

Violinist Fung Cheuk-yin Jason obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), studying with Ivan Chan and Michael Ma. During his studies, he served as Concertmaster of the HKAPA Orchestra, as well as the Kent Blossom Music Festival Orchestra in 2019.

An active chamber musician and soloist, Fung performed Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins in 2025 with Ida Kavafian at HKAPA. That same year, he joined the Academy String Sextet for a recording project produced by Grammy-winning engineer Da-Hong Seetoo, recording Brahms’ String Sextet No 1 and Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht. In 2017, he won First Prize in the String Duet Open Group at the Hong Kong Bauhinia Cup Strings Competition.

Fung has attended prestigious summer programmes and festivals including the Heifetz International Music Institute (2024), Meadowmount School of Music (2023), Dali Quartet International Music Festival (2017) and the first Chamber Music Festival at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He has taken masterclasses with renowned artists and ensembles such as the Borromeo Quartet, Shanghai Quartet, Dover Quartet, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Ida Kavafian, Steven Tenenbom, Ann Setzer, Astrid Schween, Kyoko Takezawa, Francesca dePasquale, Grigory Kalinovsky and Ning Feng.

A recipient of several scholarships, Fung was awarded the Dr Leung Ngan Chiu Prize for Contribution to the College Orchestra, the Mr and Mrs Y S Liu Scholarship, and the Wong Wai Ming Memorial Scholarship. He joined Hong Kong Sinfonietta as a full-time violinist in the 2025/2026 season and continues to perform as a freelance musician with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Macau Orchestra etc.
