Peng Wen
Assistant Principal Double Bass

Wen Peng is a double bassist who holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State University (studying with Kevin Brown) as well as a Master of Music and a Bachelor of Music from the New England Conservatory (studying with Donald Palma and James Orlean). He currently serves as Assistant Principal Double Bass of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and has previously held section double bass positions in the Chengdu Symphony Orchestra and the Lansing Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, and others. He has advanced to the semi-final rounds in auditions for the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and he got a trial with the London Symphony Orchestra, completed the Edinburgh tour with the London Symphony Orchestra, and finally performed Mahler’s Ninth Symphony conducted by Sir Simon Rattle at the BBC Proms.

Actively engaged in international music festivals, he has been selected as a fellow of the Pacific Music Festival in Japan and the Lucerne Festival Academy in Switzerland. He has extensive experience in chamber music, having performed in important works such as Beethoven’s Septet, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik, and Schubert’s Trout Quintet. He has won prizes in international competitions and has participated in masterclasses given by renowned musicians including Luo Bing, Edison Ruiz, Christopher Hanulik, and Nicolas Crosse. His playing style is rigorous yet expressive, and he is active on both orchestral and chamber music stages internationally.
