Sandy Zhi-yu Xu graduated from Sydney Conservatorium High School in 2010, where he studied with Conall McClure. He continued his studies in Switzerland at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees studying under Jean-Louis Capezzali and Vincent Gay-Balmaz. In 2023, he completed his studies with Nick Deutsch and Lin Qing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig, where he obtained his “Meisterklasse” (doctorate) diploma with highest distinction.
Xu is a laureate of the prestigious Geneva Competition in 2021. He has been invited to work with orchestras such as the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, Göttingen Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Western Australian Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia Orchestra and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
