Woo Hee-soo
Principal Clarinet

After graduating from Gyewon Arts High School in Korea in 2014, Woo Hee-soo entered Jerry Chae’s class at the South Korea National University of the Arts in 2015. She obtained a Cycle Spécialisé diploma at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris in 2019, then entered the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU) where she studied under Florent Héau. She attended masterclasses with Pascal Moraguès in 2014 and 2018, Florent Héau and Ricardo Morales in 2017, Andrew Marriner in 2022 and Calogero Palermo in 2023.

Woo participated in the Lucerne Festival in 2023 under the direction of Susanna Mälkki and Enno Poppe, and has performed with Korean and European groups such as the Suwon Symphony Orchestra (2012), Kumho Cultural Art Foundation (2013), Gangnam Symphony Orchestra (2013), KBS Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Yoel Levi (2016), Les Vocations d’Euterpe (2019), HEMU Orchestra with Renaud Capuçon (2020), Orchestre National de Lyon at Festival Les Rendez-Vous de Rochebonne (2022).

Woo has won numerous prizes in competitions including First prize at the 33rd Korea Music Association Competition (2014), First Prize at the Uebel Clarinet Competition (2014) and First Prize at the 42nd Joongang Music Competition (2016).
