Chan Angela Sin-ying
Violin

Praised for her sensitivity and remarkable tone, Hong Kong-born violinist Angela Chan is a compelling soloist and chamber musician. She is the 2024 winner of the Hannover Joseph Joachim Violin Competition, also receiving the prize for best interpretation of the commissioned work. She previously won first prize and the concerto prize at the 2017 Louis Spohr Violin Competition and is a laureate of the Singapore and Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competitions.
Angela has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the NDR Radiophilharmonie, Staatskapelle Weimar, Singapore Symphony, China Philharmonic, and the Hong Kong Symphonia, and has given recitals in cities including Boston, Philadelphia, Rome, Hong Kong, and Beijing. She is the founder and violinist of the AYA Piano Trio, which has performed in major U.S. chamber music series, including Concerts International of Memphis, the Schneider Concert Series, and the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts.
She has collaborated with artists such as Nobuko Imai, Ning Feng, Philip Setzer, and Gary Hoffman, and participated in festivals including Marlboro, Verbier, and Heifetz Institute. A former student of Michael James Ma, Vera Tsu, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Pamela Frank, and Aaron Rosand, Angela studied at the Curtis Institute and earned her master’s at the New England Conservatory under Donald Weilerstein. She is currently Artist-in-Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel under Augustin Dumay.
Highlights of Angela’s 2025–26 season include debut appearances with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Philharmonic, and releases her debut album with the AYA Piano Trio.
