Viola

Lin Charles Yik-kiu began his music journey with the viola at the age of 6. He recently acquired his Masters of Music in Viola Performance at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with distinction, studying under Mr Andrew Ling. Lin obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Viola performance from the Royal Academy of Music, London under the guidance of James Sleigh, and also acquired a teaching licentiate certificate from the same institution.

Lin has performed in various masterclasses held by famous musicians such as James Ehnes, Timothy Ridout, Amihai Grosz and Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society etc. He has performed in world renowned venues like the Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, John F. Kennedy Hall, Zhuhai Grand Theatre, the Hong Kong Museum of Arts and more. He participated in the 2024 summer Meadowmount Music Festival in the U.S., studying under Caroline Coade and Ayane Kozasa. His chamber group won the playoffs and performed in a livestream of “the violin channel”.

As a music educator, Lin is currently a Strings coach at the Diocesan Boys’ School, and a part-time Viola Teacher at the HKAPA and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department Music Office. He is now based in Hong Kong where he continues to perform and spread his music knowledge.
