Silver medallist of the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition and First Prize winner of the 2018 Geneva International Music Competition, Dmitry Shishkin has earned international acclaim for his creative and individual approach to music. Critics have described him as an “electrifying and flamboyant pianist, of great musical honesty and rigor” (Tribune de Geneve).
Shishkin’s recent highlights include Shostakovich Piano Concerto No 1 at the Vienna Musikverein, appearances with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under Jonathan Nott, Budapest Festival Orchestra under Gábor Takács-Nagy, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra under Petr Popelka, Prokofiev Piano Concerto No 3 with KBS Symphony Orchestra under Markus Stenz, Hummel Piano Concerto No 2 with Slovak Philharmonic under Erik Nielsen, Beethoven Triple Concerto at the Dvořák Prague Festival under Ingo Metzmacher, as well as recitals at Wigmore Hall and in Verbier, Seoul, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung, Catania, Trieste and Palermo.
Highlights of the 2025/2026 season include returning to the Verbier Festival to perform Hummel Piano Concerto No 2 under Mikhail Pletnev, to Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo with Shchedrin Piano Concerto No 6, débuts with Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Santa Barbara Symphony, Bilkent Symphony Orchestra and Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, and touring in Taiwan and Japan playing Prokofiev Piano Concerto No 3, as well as recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Vienna Konzerthaus, Porto Casa da Música, Schloss Elmau and in Seattle, Lakewood, La Jolla, Santa Barbara, Beaver Creek, Joplin, McCallum, Seoul, Taipei, Singapore and Bangkok.
Frequently invited by prestigious festivals, Shishkin has appeared at the Festival International de Piano de La Roque d’Anthéron, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Festival Radio France Montpellier Occitanie, Bergen International Festival, International Chopin and His Europe Festival, and International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo. He has also collaborated with distinguished artists such as Daniel Lozakovich, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Bomsori Kim and Alexandra Conunova.
Shishkin began his piano studies at the Moscow Gnessin Special School of Music with Mikhail Khokhlov, and continued at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Eliso Virsaladze, Conservatorio Statale di Musica Vincenzo Bellini in Catania with Epifanio Comis, and Hochschule für Musik Hannover with Arie Vardi. He is currently based in Switzerland.
