Michael Schiefel is a highly accomplished and versatile jazz singer, known for his work in a wide range of musical fields including experimental improvised music, pop music and classical music. He currently teaches as a Professor of Jazz Vocals at the Jazz Institute Berlin, and has released many albums including solo works.

Throughout his career, Schiefel has played with many musicians in different formations, including David Friedman, Nguyên Lê, Carla Bley, Julia Hülsmann, Nicolai Thärichen, Miklós Lukács, Jörg Brinkmann and Luise Volkmann. Some of his selected discography and notable projects include Wood & Steel Trio feat. Michael Schiefel, Michael Schiefel Platypus Trio, The Cool Runnings Orchestra, 3grams, Thärichens Tentett and the Portuguese free improvisation ensemble Quarto Com Luz.

Schiefel has also performed on concert tours and at festivals throughout the USA, Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and Middle East. Some of the highlights of his career include performances at the Philharmonie Essen with Carla Bley in Escalator Over the Hill, North Sea Jazz Festival, Moers Festival, Beijing Nine Gates Jazz Festival, JZ Festival Shanghai, Tallinn Jazzkaar Festival and Seattle Earshot Jazz Festival.

In addition to his music career, Schiefel has also been involved in the development of MikeLoop, an iPad loop application for singers which can be found on the Apple Store.
