Mirko Ludwig
Tenor
Tenor Mirko Ludwig, born in Hamburg, began his musical training as a boy soprano with the Chorknaben Uetersen. He later studied with Prof. Thomas Mohr and Krisztina Laki at the University of the Arts Bremen, where he was profoundly influenced by historically informed performance practice through working with musicians such as Manfred Cordes and Detlef Bratschke.
Alongside his solo performances in the concert and oratorio repertoire, particularly as the Evangelist in the works of J. S. Bach, Mirko Ludwig is highly sought after as an ensemble singer. His remarkable ability to emerge as a solo voice from within the ensemble has led to collaborations with distinguished conductors including Thomas Hengelbrock and Andrea Marcon. Concert tours have taken him to leading concert halls worldwide, among them the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie de Paris, Auditorio Nacional de Música Madrid, Palau de la Música Catalana Barcelona, Kölner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Konzerthaus Wien, the Musikverein Wien, NHK Hall Tokyo, National Concert Hall Taiwan, and Sala São Paulo.
In the repertoire of the 16th and 17th centuries, particularly in works by Gabrieli, Praetorius, and Schütz, he performs not only tenor roles but also the high tessitura of the tenor altus, demonstrating exceptional vocal flexibility. This versatility also enables him to interpret demanding and virtuosic tenor roles in the later Baroque repertoire.
His artistry is documented in numerous radio productions for broadcasters including NDR Kultur, Radio Bremen, and Deutschlandfunk Kultur, as well as in more than 50 CD recordings released by labels such as Sony Classical, Deutsche Grammophon, cpo, and Pentatone.
Mirko Ludwig is equally at home in crossover projects, performing innovative programs that require stylistic versatility and a wide spectrum of vocal colors, for example with Ensemble Resonanz and Lautten Compagney Berlin. With his vocal ensemble Quartonal, he also explores a broad stylistic range across the concert repertoire.
He appears regularly with internationally renowned ensembles including Balthasar-Neumann-Chor, Weser-Renaissance Bremen, Holland Baroque, barockwerk hamburg, La Cetra Basel, Vox Luminis, Ælbgut, and Cantus Thuringia.
One of the highlights of his career was his participation in the five-voice vocal ensemble at the opening concert of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg in January 2017.
