Nick Davies
Conductor

Nick Davies began his conducting career in 1986 through musical theatre. His numerous West End credits include Martin Guerre, Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, Annie Get Your Gun, Fred Astaire: His Daughter’s Tribute, The Phantom of the Opera and My Fair Lady. For Les Misérables, he has worked as both Musical Director in the West End and Musical Supervisor in Germany, Finland and Belgium. He was also Musical Director and Conductor for the world première of the Disney/Cameron Mackintosh production of Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre, London, and Musical Director for the 2006 production of Evita at the Adelphi Theatre, London.

Davies was the Musical Director for New York City Opera’s production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella which was performed in Japan, and gave the world première of Garbo: The Musical at the Oscar Theatre in Stockholm. He supervised and opened Miss Saigon, Evita, The Threepenny Opera, Beauty and the Beast and The Producers during his tenure as Head of Music at the Helsinki City Theatre. For Grange Park Opera, he conducted Cole Porter’s Anything Goes to critical acclaim. For Gothenburg Opera, he was Music Director for productions of Loesser’s Guys and Dolls, Bernstein’s West Side Story and Herman’s La Cage aux Folles. He was Music Director for a brand new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera at Finnish National Opera in September 2015, which transferred to Gothenburg Opera in 2017.

Since 2011, Davies has been Chief Conductor of the Vantaa Pops Orchestra in Finland. He is a regular guest conductor with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and has worked with them on various tours, concerts and award-winning recordings. Together with the orchestra, he has also had the honour of conducting the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo annually since 2007. In 2018, he conducted at the Classic BRIT Awards.

Davies’s vast experience has increased through his work as a guest conductor with numerous European orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Hallé, BBC Concert Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, City of London Sinfonia, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Symphony Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Kungliga Filharmonikerna, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra della Toscana, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic, Tampere Philharmonic, Oulu Symphony Orchestra and Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.

Work further afield includes the Orchestra of the Central Opera Company of Beijing, Hong Kong Philharmonic and Hong Kong Sinfonietta. In 2009, Davies made his Australian début conducting the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and has since returned to conduct the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House, Adelaide Symphony and Western Australia Symphony in Perth.
