Violin
Violinist Nina Sin-i Wong is emerging as one of the most distinctive musical voices of her generation, bringing elegance, intensity, and emotional depth to her performances as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral leader. She is the Co-Founder and Music Director of the ANIMA Ensemble, and appears regularly as guest concertmaster and principal with leading orchestras and opera companies, including Opera Hong Kong, Hong Kong Grand Opera, Musica Viva, among others. Nina has also served as concertmaster of the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2013 and as associate concertmaster of the Marvão International Music Festival Orchestra in Portugal. She frequently performs with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and is a member of Musicus Soloists Hong Kong.
At the age of 17, Nina made her concerto debut with the Macao Orchestra under the baton of conductor Zhang Guoyong, performing Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2. In 2022, she was the leading violinist in the world premiere of Tan Dun’s immersive opera “Purity .
Transcendence.” In the 2023 season, she appeared as soloist in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with Tan Dun and the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra. In 2025, she performed Tan Dun’s “The Martial Arts Trilogy” with the Xinjiang Philharmonic Orchestra. She also took part in the creation of a new chamber version of “The Martial Arts Trilogy” with Tan Dun, which premiered in and on Hainan Island.In July 2026, Nina will make her debut with the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra as part of the opening concert of Qingdao International Music Medicine Week, performing the China premiere of Peter Eötvös’s violin concerto Seven.
Nina has given solo recitals at the Macao International Music Festival and has been featured in the “Hong Kong Artists Series” presented by the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department. In 2019, she made her debut at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium in New York as first violinist of a string quartet, performing at the China Now Music Festival alongside renowned artists including soprano Huang Ying, and bass-baritone Shenyang, among others. Her international appearances also include performances at the Konzerthaus Berlin and Smetana Hall in Prague.
A devoted chamber musician, Nina has participated as a fellow artist at the Bowdoin International Music Festival in the United States, and has also appeared at the Meadowmount School of Music, Salzburg International Music Festival, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Macao International Music Festival, Kent Blossom Music Festival, among others. Through these engagements, she has collaborated with distinguished musicians from around the world, developing a musical presence that bridges cultures, disciplines, and artistic traditions.
Nina’s accolades include first prizes in violin solo, concerto, and string ensemble categories at the 28th Macao Youth Music Competition, as well as the Cultural Bureau Grand Prize. In 2018, as a member of the Virtus String Quartet, she won second prize in the string quartet category at the Shanghai International Chamber Music Competition.
Nina earned her Performance Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, and Master’s degree from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she studied under Professor Ivan Chan and was awarded scholarships throughout her studies. She later received a full scholarship to attend the Bard College Conservatory of Music in New York, where she completed the Artist Diploma, working with Tan Dun, Peter Wiley, and Joan Tower, and receiving guidance from internationally renowned musicians including Maxim Vengerov, Jimmy Lin, and Peter Serkin.
Recognized as one of the most promising and influential violinists of the new generation, Nina Sin I Wong is dedicated to fostering musical and cultural exchange both locally and internationally. In 2026, she became a member of First Initiative Foundation’s Circle of Friends – Performance. She is a Larsen Friends Artist and performs on a 1730 Alessandro Mezzadri violin sponsored by the Yu Foundation.
